Lip Filler Your Questions Answered
How Do Lip Fillers Work?
Lip fillers are injected into the lip in the form of a vial. A vial is simply a measurement of injectable liquid administered during the treatment. Typically a lip filler treatment would require one or two vials, depending on the effect that needs to be created. At sk:n, we use several brands including Juvéderm® dermal fillers as lip fillers to create volume, re-contour or add definition to the lips. Juvederm® contains Hyaluronic acid, a substance which naturally occurs in the body and so it’s completely safe to use.
Do lip fillers hurt?
Lip fillers require no cuts, incisions or stitches to be made, although the procedure may involve some light pain or discomfort. Depending on the area being treated, the treatment usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes, and clients describe it as a tiny scratch as the needle goes in, with a slight stinging sensation as the filler is applied. For those feeling anxious, we can use a local anaesthetic to numb the area completely.
Will I Look Dramatically Different After My Lip Fillers?
No. During your free consultation your doctor or nurse will discuss the best plan for you for subtle effects. Our practitioners work like artists, using the natural contours of your face for guidance. Your normal facial expressions will remain unaffected.
What Happens At My Consultation?
It’s important to us that you achieve the results you want, and we believe this starts with a great consultation. You will never be rushed and our highly trained practitioners will take the time to discuss aspects of your skin you may be unhappy with, your desired results, costs and timings. Our aim is for you to leave your consultation feeling confident, fully informed and looking forward to your treatment.
Do lip fillers last?
Lip fillers typically last between 9-12 months, but this can vary depending on several factors including the volume of filler injected. Lifestyle factors, such as smoking or sun exposure, can also affect how long the results last as well as how quickly your body breaks down the filler.
Is it true that your lips feel hard once you’ve had lip filler?
After treatment your lips will feel tender and sore for the first couple of days and you may have the sensation of something in your lips. Following your consultation, your practitioner will be able to give you an indication of how your lips will feel in the days and weeks following your treatment so you know what to expect.
How long before I can wear lip liner or lipstick again?
No makeup or product should be worn or applied to your lips for at least 12 hours following treatment.
What types of fillers do you offer?
Are lip fillers safe?
At sk:n every client seeking injectable treatments with lip fillers is given an in-depth consultation that examines motivation and expectations. We have the highest level of regulation in the industry, exceeding all recommended guidelines and requirements. Our clinics are safe, medical environments and your treatment will be carried out only by a highly qualified doctor or nurse.
Can lip fillers be removed?
During your consultation a great amount of time will be spent discussing your expectations and only trained medical practitioners administer lip fillers at sk:n, so there shouldn’t be any surprise or shock results following treatment. However, if you are not happy with the results, your doctor or nurse can administer a solution that dissolves the lip filler almost instantly, leaving no lasting damage or effect.
Can lip fillers look natural?
Yes lip fillers can look natural. During your consultation your doctor or nurse will discuss the best plan for you to achieve subtle results.
Do you offer permanent lip fillers?
We do not offer permanent lip fillers, due to the unknown long-term risks involved.
How much do lip fillers usually cost?
Lip fillers are usually priced by the vial, with a single 1ml treatment starting from £350 (depending on the area that is to be treated). Exact costs are confirmed after a free consultation with a doctor or nurse.
I Want My Lips To Look Subtly Fuller. How Do You Avoid The “Duck Lips” Look?
By working with the natural shape of the lips to add volume and definition. ‘Duck lips’ often occur when the wrong type or too much filler has been used. That’s why it’s important to ensure your practitioner has extensive experience of using fillers, along with a detailed knowledge of facial anatomy. At sk:n, you’ll only ever be treated by a fully qualified and registered healthcare professional. We only use the highest grade medical products and perform all treatments in a clinical environment, with strict protocol and procedures to follow.
What happens after lip filler treatment?
At sk:n lip fillers are only ever administered by a doctor or nurse prescriber, who will conduct a post-treatment review to ensure you are happy with the results. They will also check-in with you post-treatment and answer any questions that you may have.
Afterwards there may be some swelling or bruising, with the swelling usually fading within 48 hours and the bruising fading within a fortnight.
What is a ‘vial’ and how many do I need for my treatment?
Lip fillers are injected into the lip in the form of a vial. A vial is a measurement of the anti-wrinkle injectable liquid administered during treatment, and typically a treatment for lips require 1 – 2 vials.
What is in lip fillers?
We use the highest grade lip filler solutions, which will be administered at varying levels of thickness depending on the area being treated, in order to achieve the best possible results. Our product Juvederm is made from biocompatible, biodegradable materials and contains Hyaluronic Acid, which replaces the naturally existing substance in your skin that repairs damaged tissue and absorbs water to create a plumping effect.
Who can administer lip fillers?
It is important that you visit a private clinic such as sk:n where your lip fillers can be administered professionally and safely by a qualified professional in a clinical environment.
