Dull Skin

Dull skin is often described as skin that has lost its brightness and looks grey in appearance. As we age, this can become a common skin complaint.

When we are young, our skin sheds its cells every 30 days. However, as we get older this extends up to every 60 days. The natural decrease in cell turnover can cause a build-up of dead skin cells and a dull looking complexion.

Apart from the natural ageing process, other factors such as exposure to the sun and certain lifestyle choices can lead to tired, dull skin. In order to keep the skin bright and healthy, it is important to protect the skin from damage whilst also encouraging cell turnover. Wearing an SPF on a daily basis, such as sk:n's moisturising cream with SPF can defend against harmful UV rays which age the skin all year round. Using an exfoliator which contains glycolic acid such as sk:n's exfoliating cleanser will gently help slough dead skin cells away to reveal fresh, clear skin.

At sk:n, we offer a number of specialised treatments and an expert product range to help clear dull skin.

After living the work-hard, play-hard lifestyle for a few years, my complexion looked quite dull. I had tried several shop-bought creams to bring it back to life, but the result wasn't what I hoped for. After having a course of glycolic peels, my face is glowing!

Treatments to brighten dull skin

At sk:n we use several techniques to get rid of dull skin. At your consultation your expert practitioner will advise you of the best option for your individual skin and budget.

Skin Peels

We offer a number of skin peels that are designed to brighten and refresh dull skin. The treatment involves applying a non toxic chemical to the skin to encourage cell turnover and the exfoliation process. As dead skin cells are removed, skin appears clearer and more radiant. Many of the lighter skin peels are relatively pain free, with the deeper ones feeling like an episode of sunburn.

This exfoliating treatment is ideal for treating dull skin. It is performed using a mechanical device which simultaneously buffs away unwanted imperfections using microcrystals and vacuums the top layer of skin. The superficial depth of skin removal helps promote new skin cells and collagen production; resulting in plumper, brighter skin.

Microneedling uses small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. These small contact points encourage the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect. Skin appears brighter and younger looking
