How to find a good dermatologist

Book A Consultation

A dermatologist can treat a wide number of skin conditions – from acne and sun spots to crows feet, wrinkles and hair removal. The dermatology methods they use include laser treatment and microdermabrasion and while these innovative treatments can work miracles, it is important to find someone who really knows what they are doing.

A good dermatologist will be able to provide you with references from previous satisfied customers, so you can trust that others are happy with their work. They will be happy to tell you all about their training history and any qualifications they have.

They will also be happy to provide you with an initial consultation to assess your skin and needs before advising you of a recommended course of treatment. There will be no obligation to go ahead and pay for the treatment and your dermatologist should be able to explain to you exactly why she is recommending this bespoke plan for you.

A bad dermatologist, on the other hand, will be reluctant to take the time to give you a consultation and will try to pressure you into booking a standard treatment right away.

As well as making you feel uncomfortable, this can also be dangerous. For example, laser hair removal treatment courses have to be tailored to match your specific skin type, skin colour and hair colour.

If you dermatologist isn’t willing to offer a consultation and take these factors into consideration, you could end up undergoing a too-intensive treatment that causes damage or a too-light treatment that just doesn’t work.

When looking for someone to perform dermatology treatments, ask for recommendations from friends and family and look at reviews online. Take the time to talk to your dermatologist beforehand – if they are a good one, they will be more than happy to answer your questions and give you all the advice you need before you decide to go ahead with your skin treatments.
