The connection between your natural hair and acne
1st December 2013
Acne is a common skin condition that affects millions of people around the world, but one common theme is that you usually see the first signs of acne breakouts during your teenage life. We don't only get affected physically by acne, but it can also have a negative impact on our emotional state, with us feeling low in self-esteem.
See a short clip on the connection between your natural hair and acne.
In the clip, Liz reveals how she got back acne and acne on her face whilst washing her hair in the shower. She gives us some useful tips to follow in the shower to avoid any form of acne breakouts.
Tip 1: Wash your hair before you have washed your body
This will prevent chemically based products like shampoos from sitting on your skin and clogging your pores. By doing so, you will also be able to immediately wash all the product residue off your skin.
Tip 2: Wear a clip to tie your hair up
Purchase a strong, large hair clip from any beauty salon or supermarket so you're able to put your entire hair back before you wash it in the shower. By doing so, you will not have your hair sitting on your back while you're still washing, with the product still running down your skin causing acne breakouts.
Tip 3: Don't deep condition your hair when it's really wet
She stresses that we should avoid deep conditioning our hair on really wet hair to avoid having chemically based products having close contact with our skin as much as possible.
Tip 4: Know about your product
As suggested in the clip, it's wise to keep track of the ingredients of our products, including natural products. If you are breaking out with pimples, then compare products and see which product is causing this breakout, it may just be a certain ingredient that is causing a allergic reaction. It's better to find out sooner rather than later, which ingredients we are allergic to so we can avoid these in the future.
