Baby got bacne: Songs with lyrics about skin

3rd March 2013

The famous sir mix-a-lot song baby got back is a huge hit of the 1990’s and one that always gets us jumping around. With a play on words we’ve looked at some of the songs of the past that feature skin or acne in their title or lyrics.

Frank Sinatra - I’ve Got You Under My Skin:

Perhaps one of the most famous Sinatra songs is ‘I’ve got you under my skin,’ where simply the line sparks memories and sophistication from the 1930’s. Of course, we know that Sinatra isn’t talking about his skin complaints or acne but more the infatuation of a loved one. It can’t be denied that the title and line repeated throughout is much loved worldwide and that most lyrical geniuses love to play on the word skin.

Jay-Z – History

Jay-Z’s autobiographical song aptly named History talks about his past and dreams about making it big in the world of music. The line “As a teenage boy before acne, before I got proactive I couldn’t face she.” Proactive being a big American skin care brand. Even the most successful musicians had to use an acne cure to overcome self confidence issues. Here at sk:n clinics we have a wide range of cosmetic creams available including laser acne treatment to help you if you’re feeling self conscious about bad skin.

Blackstreet – No Diggity

Rap songs can be particularly inventive with their lyrics and No Diggity released in 1993 by Blackstreet was no exception. A song still played and appreciated as part of old skool R&B today features a line about acne. Rap songs tend to refer to the word bumping as acne because of its bump like appearance as a facial imperfection. In the first verse of Blackstreet we hear “Bump like Acne, no doubt.”

Clearly the topic of skin creates and stimulates a lot of lyrical geniuses amongst the music world. But if you’d rather do something about your skin instead of just singing about it then pop into our of our friendly sk:n clinics to see if we have an acne cure for you.
