Dr Gemma Harrop


Dr Harrop qualified as a doctor in 2014 having studied at The University of Dundee and began working in a wide range of medical specialties at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary which included acute medicine and surgery.

In 2018, Dr Harrop began her dermatology career with NHS Grampian which involved an initial first year at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee whereby Dr Harrop gained experience in hair clinics, photobiology and laser medicine. The rest of her training has been in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with greater experience in skin cancer clinics and general dermatology and will become a dermatologist in September 2024.

Dr Harrop has a wide range of publications in dermatology and has presented both nationally and internationally at a number of dermatology conferences and has been awarded the prestigious La Roche Posay photo-dermatology fellowship. Dr Harrop has been actively involved in medical education both with University of Dundee, University of Aberdeen and University of Medicine, Mandalay and holds a PGCert in Medical Education and is a member of the Academy of Medical Educators and an Honorary University of Aberdeen staff member. Dr Harrop is also a professional dermatology exam writer for medical entrance exams.

Dr Harrop initially became interested in dermatology after her own experience as a patient and she aims to bring these empathy skills to her own consultations.
