skin peels - skin care's best kept secret.

At sk:n, we know the secret to an enviable complexion – and we’d like to share it with you. Our innovative range of powerful skin peel treatments allow you to strip back the things you hate about your skin – dryness, fine lines, pigmentation, blocked pores – to reveal beautiful fresh skin beneath. It’s been hiding there all along; you just needed to unveil it!

Skin peels have been around for a while and there are many misconceptions and myths about what they are and how they work. Here, sk:n expert Nurse Ruth busts a few common myths about skin peels:

Myth: You will need to take time off work after a chemical peel – and it will leave you with significant downtime.
Fact: It really depends on the depth of the peel you are having. With most peels, you will not need time off work. Post-treatment, your skin will be slightly red, which could last a couple of hours. With many peels, your skin will become slightly dry and tight over the first couple of days, and you may experience some peeling.

Myth: The skin needs to be physically peeled off for best results.
Fact: Superficial peels do not actively peel the skin; instead they encourage natural desquamation, which is the shedding of dead skin cells to encourage new rejuvenated cells to the surface.

Myth: Peels are painful.
Fact: Most superficial and medium peels produce tingling, itching and a warming sensation. But this is only whilst the peel is actually in contact with the skin (between one and five minutes). After the peel, you may feel a slight itching and warmth, which can be alleviated by the use of our aftercare products. With a TCA peel (a deeper-level treatment) you will feel more discomfort than other peels whilst it is in contact with the skin. Many compare the post-treatment feeling to sunburn, and you will experience peeling approximately 48 hours later.
