Sun Protection: All You Need To Know
05 Jun 2017
We are fast approaching the summer months and we understand how easy it is to get carried away and forget the long term effects the sun can have on our skin.
Overexposure to UVA and UVB rays projected from the sun can cause premature ageing as well as long term skin damage. Avoiding putting on SPF protection even when you’re having a quick drink in a beer garden or doing the gardening is not worth the risk.
The choice of sun protection products can be overwhelming. It’s important to know what you’re looking for and what different products can offer your skin.
• UVB protection – UVB rays from the sun can cause your skin to burn because they have a more intense wavelength. On a sunny day, these are the rays can you need to maximise protection from.
• UVA protection – 95% of the sun’s rays are UVA, which have a longer wavelength so they can travel through clouds. This means we should always wear sun protection even when it’s not nice weather. The damage UVA causes is prematurely aged skin.
• Physical sun screen – Sun creams that offer physical protection are able to reflect the rays away from your skin and offer good protection against UVA rays.
Our Medical director Dr Firas Al-Niaimi recommends Heliocare sun protection products as they invest a lot in scientific research into sun protection.
To help keep you safe in the sun, we're offering 20% off* all Heliocare products during June. Shop now!
It is especially important to wear sun protection following a skin treatment because your skin is more sensitive and the risk of pigmentation is increased.
