PCOS: Be Educated. Be Empowered.
08 Nov 2016
sk:n team up with Verity’s at the annual Verity PCOS support group conference: “Be educated. Become empowered.”
Verity is the UK Charity for women with PCOS and supports thousands of women living with polycystic ovary syndrome. PCOS is said to impact 1 in 5 women in the UK and can affect many aspects of health, from fertility to increased risk of diabetes. The main features of PCOS include;
- irregular periods – which means ovaries don't regularly release eggs
- excess androgen – high levels of "male hormones", which may cause physical signs such as excess facial or body hair
- polycystic ovaries – ovaries become enlarged and contain many fluid-filled sacs (follicles) which surround the eggs (however despite the name, PCOS ovaries don't actually have cysts)
Verity’s aim is to educate, support and empower women with PCOS, to improve the quality of, access to, and choice of treatments available. Verity’s annual conference gives members and non-members alike, the chance to network with other ladies with PCOS, and speak with health care professionals to receive up to the minute information on all aspects of PCOS management. This year sk:n was invited along to the conference to speak to attendees about the treatments we offer that help to manage some of the distressing symptoms that often occur with PCOS, such as excess hair growth and acne.
sk:n continues to work in support of Verity’s cause of promoting a deeper and wilder understanding of the condition and how symptoms can be treated, by offering PCOS sufferers a constant 30% discount off laser hair removal courses.
This year’s AGM was held in Cardiff at the city’s Marriot hotel on Saturday 16th
October 2016 and there were over 100 delegates in attendance. The day was jam-packed and full of speakers including Professors, Doctors and Psychologists, who all have a special interest in women’s health and specifically, PCOS. Elle James a delegate at the event provided some positive feedback about the day; ‘The speakers were of such a high calibre and I learnt so much about the condition and the different ways that the symptoms of PCOS can be managed.”
sk:n Nurse Louise Baker, spoke to attendees about how sk:n can help to manage a common symptom of PCOS: excess hair growth. sk:n offer the most advanced hair removal technology available on the market. Our FDA approved treatment gives a permanent, 90% reduction in unwanted hair growth. We have performed over 450,000 facial laser hair removal treatments in the last 7 years, helping women suffering from PCOS, and allowing them to rediscover confidence that had previously diminished due to unwanted hair growth.
