Skincare tips for acne during summer

1. Cleanse your skin

Heat and humidity may cause oil glands to work overtime; hence you should control oiliness by frequently washing your face with a foaming cleanser. You can do this 2-3 times a day depending on how oily your skin becomes. Try not to make this a common routine as excessive cleansing can break down the skin's protective barrier, causing excessive dryness and irritation and even worsen breakouts.

2. Use a light weight moisturizer

It's also a good time to consider changing your moisturiser if you had been using a more emollient one during the cooler months. You should user a lighter lotion as you will find that your skin generally won't be faced with as much dryness.

3. Use a suitable sunscreen

Acne medications including Retin-A and Benzaclin can make your skin sensitive to the sun and so you must ensure that you regularly use sunscreen. Choose an oil-free sunscreen of at least SPF 15. Alternatively you could go for a tinted sunscreen that will also provide you with good coverage without needing makeup. Our sk:n sunscreen SPF 50 repairs and protects your skin while giving you a beautiful glow and excellent coverage.

Shower more frequently to avoid sweat

Sweat can also irritate acne; therefore you should shower after working out or whenever you find yourself sweating excessively. If you're more prone to blackheads, try to use a body wash with salicylic acid as it has a larger molecular structure to Glycolic Acid and it stays on the surface of the skin longer, giving it fantastic pore clearing capabilities. If you get inflamed pimples, use products with benzoyl peroxide as it prevents the buildup of dead skin cells, excess oil, and acne bacteria. By frequently showering and washing away sweat, you can reduce breakouts much quicker.
