Laser Tattoo Removal Explained in a GIF
4th June 2015
Understanding how laser tattoo removal really works is often a top priority for anyone looking to get rid of their unwanted ink. It can often be difficult to explain; either you are shown an example of it being performed on someone, or you have the scientific process explained to you. Many people however struggle to visualise how it works from lots of technical and medical terms.
We recently came across a possible solution to this problem.
Smarter Every Day
Smarter Every Day is a blog and YouTube channel with over 2.7 million subscribers, and it's dedicated to exploring and explaining the world using science.
The man behind it all is called Destin, and he ventured out to speak to a Plastic Surgeon to understand all he could about tattoos and tattoo removal.
In short, the laser is used to break up the ink pigment, making it easier for white blood cells to get rid of them. Destin's educational adventure was all captured on video; showing his audience the science behind laser tattoo removal.
What is a GIF?
A GIF is a format of image that supports animation. It is often used in multiple Buzzfeed articles to make jokes and create humour in articles. The full video is actually over 9 minutes long, and has been watched nearly 2.5 million times in less than a year; but for those with a shorter attention span, a GIF was created showing the basics of what happens.
Tattoo removal should always be discussed with a specialist before making a decision, no matter how well you understand the science. It takes more than knowledge about the process to know whether laser removal is right for you, so book a consultation with a dermatologist first.
