New Year Skin Resolutions

It's this time of the year again, time to look forward to 2015 and make this new year a fresh start towards a brand new you. We have looked into what could be your new year skin resolutions to glow for the upcoming year.

1. Know your skin

In order to take brilliant care of your skin, you have to know what kind of skin you have. This is because different skin types demand specific routines and treatments. Therefore, in knowing your skin, you will be able to take better care of it, using skin care products and ensuring your skin is receiving the right benefits from them.

2. Create a skin care routine and stick to it

Taking care of your skin takes time and effort. Putting in place a skin care programme should help you to keep on top of things. Determination is key here; make sure you stick to your plan as we know how easy it is to forget or even give up.

3. Hydrate

Water is an essential element for everyone; it makes up 60-70% of our body's composition. Drinking water frequently will help you flush toxins out of your system and enhance the performance of your organs as well.

4. Wear sunscreen every day

You may think that sunscreen is only necessary during summer or when you go on a hot holiday away, however, you are constantly exposed to the sun the moment you step out of your home. Doctors suggest that applying sunscreen is key to daily skin care routine and long-term dermatological health. You don't have to worry about slapping on sunscreen everyday though, as there are a host of moisturising creams and foundations on the market that already protect against the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays.

5. Keep your hands off your face

Picking at your skin can be tempting when you notice a spot or if you feel really itchy. However, when you pick a pimple the red mark can last 1-2 months. The reason behind the long lasting scars is the deepening of bacteria into your skin. By just touching your face, you are bringing pore-clogging oil and dirt to the skin so keep them away from your face.

6. Take care of your hands

Your hands are often forgotten about when you think about taking care of your skin. Nevertheless, your hands are the most exposed to bacteria, wind, sun and cold that can damage your hands and make them age. Therefore, taking care of your hands by washing and moisturising them will help keep them young.

7. Wash and moisturise before going to bed

Washing and moisturising your skin before going to bed will help it get rid of the dirt but also renew and nourish your skin overnight.

8 Sleep at least 8 hours every night

Sleeping at night is the time when your body is the most metabolically active and ejects all the toxins in your skin. Consequently, we do say beauty sleep is very important to make you feel stress free and beautiful.

9. Clean your make up brushes once a week

In order to limit bacteria and spots on your face, washing your make-up brushes with soap and water can help you to have a smooth skin.

10. Check-ups with your dermatologist

Check-ups with your dermatologist are crucial in order to know how to best treat your skin, especially when you are having skin problems. Furthermore, it is important to check upon your moles every year; early detections can be a life saver.
