Five hidden causes of acne you didn't know about
01 Nov 2013
We often blame factors like stress from work as a key contributor towards our acne. Acne breakouts can be experienced by people from all age groups, although it's a skin condition greatly found in adolescents. There can be varying causes for acne, some under our control and some not, below are a few examples:
Cause 1: Dairy
According to a study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, males who had two or more servings of milk a day were most likely to have acne.
Cause 2: Carbohydrates
Some researchers have found that increased insulin, from carbohydrate based foods can cause inflammation in the skin, which in turn leads to breakouts.
Cause 3: Lack of omega-3's
The production of sebum can increase the chances of people experiencing breakouts. A daily consumption of omega 3 supplements can however decrease the production of sebum so you have a lower risk of getting unwanted pimples. Foods like tuna, salmon and sardines are good examples of foods that consist omega-3's.
Cause 4: Stress
Researchers believe that stress hormones can worsen acne. Certain steroid hormones like glucocorticoids and adrenal androgens, are released during stress, and are known to cause breakouts by activating the oil gland and clogging your pores.
Cause 5: Too much sun
Although sun exposure is great at giving us vitamin D which is essential for our bodies, too much of it can result in acne breakouts if the skin is not protected properly. Sun exposure increases your skin's oil production, which consequently clogs your pores.
As you can see, there are a number of hidden reasons behind the formation of our pimples. If however, you suffer from severe acne, then why not try, acne laser treatment.
