Foods to Avoid With Rosacea
5th June 2013
If you are suffering from the skin condition rosacea, you are probably fed up of dealing with the redness, flushing, thickening of the skin and the spots it causes. The condition which most commonly occurs in those 30 years and over is currently incurable. Thankfully there are treatments and changes you can adopt that can keep symptoms to a minimum. While the cause of Rosacea is also currently unknown there are several triggers linked to the skin condition, including stress, heat, hormones and too much sunshine. One of the biggest ways in reducing the symptoms is to avoid some of the trigger foods. Here at sk:n we've put together a mini black list of foods to avoid if you're a sufferer of Rosacea!
Begin by Avoiding the Following Foods
- Citrus fruits
- Dairy products
- Soy Sauce
- Red Meats
Avoiding the above foods can help keep Rosacea at bay. We recommend you visit a nutritionist who will take into account your allergies and dietary requirements. The alkaline diet has been associated with reducing the effects of Rosacea and consists almost entirely of vegetables, low sugar fruits and pure salads, soups and juices.
The Alkaline Diet
Although Rosacea is a skin condition it is largely a vascular problem and this is why we recommend avoiding foods packed full of caffeine and sugar as they are the cause for what's known as vascular dilation. These foods are full of acidic substances and are then neutralised by foods rich in alkaline properties.
This aside, if you find that the diet isn't having the desired effect then you should consider looking into a skin treatment. Our Rosacea treatment could be the answer you're looking for to help control your condition. We offer a range of treatment types depending on the outcome of your individual consultation.
