Maintaining Healthy Hair and Skin During Ramadan
23 Jul 2013
If you're concerned about the negative impacts that long periods of fasting can have on your skin, you don't need to worry. Your body should be getting enough vitamins and minerals every day, even if it's all from one meal. Your body's daily supply of vitamins and minerals isn't dependant on the number of meals you eat in a day. Follow these simple steps to keep your skin looking beautiful during Ramadan.
If possible, drink as much water and fluids (at least two litres) to avoid dehydration of the skin. Dehydration can cause the skin to look tired and dull, which isn't good news if you naturally have dry skin. Drink water at breakfast to prevent dark circles around your eyes.
Moisturise Your Skin
You need to make sure that you're applying a hydrating face cream and body lotion suitable for your skin after showering/bathing and before bedtime. If you're heading out, try to seek shade where possible and choose creams containing SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
Opt for vegetables such as carrots, broccoli, lettuce, spinach and parsley since they contain most of the vital minerals and vitamins that your skin needs. The same goes for fruits, which also contain skin enhancing antioxidants. Dates are a great source of vitamin A, iron, potassium, magnesium and calcium. Dried apricots help to boost the brightness of the skin. Put down those sweets and snack on fruit instead.
Avoid Fatty Snacks
Keep away from any unhealthy junk food including salty food as this can encourage unwanted acne alongside weight gain.
Another effective way to renew tired and dull looking skin is to check out our microdermabrasion treatments, which not only work to safely remove dead skin cells, but also work with your body to replace these skin cells, revealing a healthy, glowing complexion. There are several benefits to microdermabrasion, including unclogging of the pores, a smoother skin surface and much more.
