Skin tags are extremely common
1st August 2013
We've probably all seen a skin tag, they are small flesh coloured growths and often appear on the neckline or the face such as eyelids. They are also common on the body in less visible areas such as under the arms, beneath the breasts or the groin area.
Unlike some moles, skin tags are small and harmless, but understandably sometimes they may cause embarrassment or very occasionally discomfort if they are in awkward places. Whatever your skin tag is, the chances are we've seen it all before at sk:n as skin tags are pretty commonplace so there isn't any need to feel embarrassed.
What's the best way to remove skin tags?
You can treat skin tags with some over-the-counter treatments or even some home remedies can be affective, but we would recommend the best way to permanently and safely remove a skin tag and avoid any unnecessary scarring, is to visit a specialist or seek professional advice.
Removing a skin tag is a quick and easy procedure with the majority of treatments such as Cryosurgery (freezing procedure using liquid nitrogen) or Ligation (the tag is tied off) carried out under a local anaesthetic. Alternatively, laser treatment may also be available, which doesn't involve a local anaesthetic, but can involve a little discomfort.
The good news is that these treatments are all permanent and all you'll have left afterwards is a small white scar where the skin was removed.
How do I know which treatment is right for me?
If you are considering professional treatment for your skin tag, then we would recommend booking a consultation with sk:n. Our specialists will assess your skin tag and walk you through the options, the pros and cons and guide you in the right direction before you commit.
