How to treat open pores
Stress, genetics, acne prone skin types and having a poor skincare routine can all lead to your pores appearing bigger and more visible. These pesky open pores will only contribute to further outbreaks of spots, and possibly even acne. If you treat your open pores when they first appear you can stop them from becoming troublesome!
What are open pores?
Often referred to as 'strawberry nose', open pores can occur on your face, chest, back, or upper arms. Every individual pore houses a hair follicle and a sebaceous gland which sebum (the skins natural oil) passes along. The size of the pore is attributed to the size of the oil gland and hair follicle that it contains.
Pores are necessary, and everyone has them so they aren't anything to worry about unless they are causing issues such as oil increase or spots. Opening your pores isn't a bad thing - in fact you need the pores to open to keep the skin healthy and this is best done during the cleansing process of your daily skincare routine. However, it is vital that you remember to close your pores again! Leaving them open means they are unprotected and they can easily become infected leading to bouts of acne and spots. Using a product such as sk:n Pore Refining Lotion will ensure that they are closed and protected.
How can I treat my open pores?
Open pores cannot disappear or shrink overnight, however you can help make them appear smaller or less visible. If you're suffering with large open pores and it's leading to breakouts then our Isolaz treatment, or a Salicylic Skin Peel may help to clear your skin with time.
Another great way to clean out your skin, and open your pores is through a Pyruvic Skin Peel. Part of our InnerPeel™ range, this peel is perfect for those prone to outbreaks, blackheads and oily skin as it contains a natural occurring acid that penetrates your skin as well as gently exfoliating the surface to make it tighter and clearer.
If it's more serious than a few spots, and you're suffering from acne you can book a free acne consultation at one of our 34 clinics across the UK. We are the Nation's Acne Clinic because only we combine the UK's leading Dermatologists, advanced clinical treatments and a clinically proven product range - all in one clinical environment.
