Does laser hair removal hurt?

1st February 2012  :

Many potential clients will be wondering if laser hair removal actually hurts. While the majority of people who undergo laser hair removal treatment do so without the need for anaesthetic, some do report feeling a small amount of pain during the procedure. If you do feel discomfort during the treatment be sure to inform the technician right away as they can apply a topical anaesthetic cream which will numb the treated area immediately.

Laser hair removal uses an invisible light beam to get beneath the skin and remove hair follicles at their roots. Despite the whole process being very quick there is a slight chance that the heat generated by the laser can cause minor skin irritation which ceases soon after the procedure. Many technicians apply a cooling gel or spray throughout the procedure to counter any irritation, which only occurs when the laser is being used.

However, people with unsightly excess hair should not be dissuaded from choosing laser hair removal as a fast and effective remedy. All forms of hair removal cause a degree of skin irritation. Laser treatment is longer lasting than just shaving and is usually far less painful than waxing and plucking.

Discuss your laser treatment beforehand with a technician. They will be able to give you professional advice and dispel any concerns you have regarding the procedure. They will also inform you of the sprays, cooling gels and topical anaesthetics they have available to offset any irritation resulting from the treatment. Laser hair removal is extremely popular and most people who undergo the cosmetic procedure feel little to no pain at all and are delighted with the results.
