“I was born with a condition called neurofibromatosis which is a genetic disorder that causes nodules to form on the surface of my skin and also affects the nerve endings of the body. I previously had these surgically removed which left me with scars. I then heard about a company called sk:n. In 1998 sk:n took me on as a case study and began treating me using the Erbium-YAG laser.
“In 2010 I went back to sk:n after successfully applying for public funding through the Primary Care Trust. As a result I had my face and neck treated, and the outcome changed my life for the better. Sue Krishnan - laser hair removal
Sue first realised she had more body hair than other girls at school when she was in a PE class and her teacher cruelly remarked: "You're a hairy little monkey aren't you?!" This insensitive comment stuck with Sue, and her ongoing nightmare of removing hair by waxing, plucking and shaving began. According to Sue, she spent most of her spare time removing hair. She eventually went to the doctor and was diagnosed with hirsuitism, a medical condition often linked to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which causes females to have excess body hair in areas it would not normally be found. She was told that there was no help available for her.
She felt ashamed of her body hair, and this had a huge effect on her social life and relationships. It wasn't until her mid 30s that she finally plucked up the courage to do something about her body hair. She discovered laser hair removal at sk:n, and for her it has been a revelation. She is now almost completely hair-free and feels that she finally has a life! Her confidence and self-esteem have been boosted; she can now wear short sleeves, skirts and bikinis, and she finally feels happy and content.
Tracy Swales - tattoo removal
Tracy was just 15 years old when she had her first tattoo. At the time it seemed rebellious - almost addictive - to her and her friends, and she kept having more and more, covering her arms with images of birds and devils. Although at the time she thought it was the height of good taste, as she began to settle down and children came along, she became increasingly self-conscious about her tattoos. Holidays were the most embarrassing time of year for her; so much so that she used to sit by the poolside with long sleeves. At the age of 35, Tracy decided she had to do something about her unwanted tattoos. She had heard that sk:n offered tattoo removal and so decided to contact them. Phil Bubb - laser hair removal
Phil had been married to his wife, Clare, for almost 14 years and when they met it was love at first sight. Clare always knew Phil was hairy, and it was never a problem for her, but as he got older he started to become increasingly self-conscious about his hairiness, particularly his hairy back. "Whenever we went on holiday, I'd sunbathe on my back, quickly putting on a t-shirt whenever I went into the sea. Jess Cotton - Accent skin tightening
Jess had booked a holiday to go to Trinidad for Carnival for the second year in a row, which meant she would have to wear a beautiful, but very small, bikini-based costume. The only problem she had was with the timing - as it is in early February, she only had a month to tone up and lose some pounds after the usual Christmas feasting.
"I stepped up my gym classes, but the weight I found hardest to shift was my 'muffin top' and I was very concerned about baring my midriff and dancing while my excess chub jiggled! I have a problem with needles and don't like the idea of invasive liposuction, so that was out of the question. I then asked around a few friends, and one of them suggested that I go to sk:n, as they perform a variety of non-surgical procedures and have clinics close to my work and my home. I went in and had a chat about what they do and decided to use Accent, which is essentially a way of melting fat from you - it's non-invasive, doesn't hurt and I could do it in my lunchtime.
"I went along and found it pain-free - it gets a little hot - but the treatment only took about 10 minutes or so. Basically they heated up my muffin top, told me to drink lots of water and off I went, back to work. At first, my flesh felt a bit wobbly, but over the space of a day or so, I noticed that my trousers were a little looser and my skin actually felt tighter. I had one more treatment and noticed the same results again. When I measured myself, I had lost about an inch in total from my middle and really saw a difference when I put my bikini on. The results have lasted, but I intend to go back for another treatment before I go on holiday later this year as it not only made me look better but gave me loads more confidence, too! I'd recommend Accent to anyone who has trouble shifting stubborn curves, or who just wants to tone up a particular body area. If I ever get married, I'll be using Accent to get into my wedding dress, too!"
Dave Seward - treatment for lines and wrinkles
